Stand Still

This is God’s command to the believer when he is under great stress and facing extraordinary difficulties, when he can do nothing to change his pressing circumstances: Stand still.

It is good to listen only to God’s word in difficult times, for then evil and darkness whisper the coward’s words, “Give up, go back to the worldly ways; you cannot be a good Christian. It is too difficult.”

But God would have us stand still, tall in courage and rejoicing in His continued love and faithfulness, to be renewed by His strength in due time. In faith, stand still, immovable as a rock. Be an upright believer, cheerful and patiently waiting, showing all your willing obedience to God. And soon enough, seeing your reliance on Him rather than yourself, He will say to you, “Go forward,” and He will go with you.
